Ceva Sante Animale, whose North American headquarters are in Lenexa, has entered merger negotiations with French veterinary pharmaceutical company Sogeval.
Ceva, which is based in Libourne, France, is the world’s ninth-largest veterinary health group, employing more than 3,000 people worldwide. It develops and produces vaccines and other pharmaceuticals for companion animals and livestock.
According to the Kansas City Business Journal’s 2013 Book of Lists, it employs 300 local employees at Ceva Animal Health and Ceva Biomune, making it the third-largest animal health company in the region.
Sovegal employs 291 people and is one of the largest animal health companies in France. It specializes in veterinary drugs and specialty products.
"The decision behind this project was made with both our hearts and minds. We share the same business philosophy, one which will allow us to grow faster together," Ceva CEOMarc Prikazsky said in a statement.
According to a release, company executives said a merger would allow the companies to consolidate their positions in cardiology and pain management for companion animals.
It also will allow Ceva to combine its focus on anti-parasitic and behavior products with Sovegal’s antibiotic and dermatology focus.
It's unclear what the merger's effect would be on the Lenexa office. Local Ceva officials declined to elaborate on the release.
The deal is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
